Despite the additional enemies in Scholar, the game is still not nearly as tough as the original Dark Souls which is something that I as a fan was also disappointed by. All they did was add weaker versions of previously defeated bosses to areas later in the game, rather than actually develop strong and intimidating "mini-bosses" like the Hellkite Dragon of the original Dark Souls which was tougher than some actual bosses in that game. I almost wish they would have kept it with almost no mini-bosses at all like the original Dark Souls 2. Also, the "mini-bosses" in Scholar are an absolute joke. The NPC interactions aren't even half as interesting and worthwhile as the first game and more often than not it just involves someone helping you with a boss fight and then giving you their stuff. If you loved the first Dark Souls game you will more than likely be disappointed by either version of Dark Souls 2 even if you still enjoy Dark Souls 2. The only problems I had with the game regarded how the game is set up in terms of what a Souls game should be. In terms of how the game looks and plays it's much better than the original and is great overall.
